Each year, the faculty at Bridgeport High School selects four students to serve as Mr. and Miss BHS and senior representatives. These students are academically strong, have displayed good character, and have been involved in their school and community throughout high school.
This year, Jack Funk and Maggie Lohmann will speak at the May 22 graduation ceremony as Mr. and Miss BHS.
Funk is the son of Fred and Amy Funk of Bridgeport. His older sister, Danielle Funk, is a junior at West Virginia University and his twin brother, Andrew Funk, is also a senior at Bridgeport High School.
Throughout his four years at BHS, Funk has maintained a grade point average above a 4.0, earned his Academic Letter his freshman year, and his Academic Lamps his sophomore and junior years. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was chosen as the BHS ambassador for the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference.
He also serves on the Junior Engineering and Technical Society (JETS), the Science Bowl academic team, and is a member of the Drug-Free Club and RAZE.
He has participated in several athletic teams during high school. During his four year involvement with cross country, the team earned the 2013 and 2014 state titles. They were also state runners-ups in 2015. He was named part of the Big 10 first team his junior and senior years, Big 10 second team his sophomore year, and served as co- captain his senior year. He also participated on the track team for four years, swim team for three years, the freshman basketball team, and soccer team for one year.
In addition to academics and athletics, Funk has played trombone in the Jazz Band for four years, earning first chair and being All County first chair trombone since his junior year. He also played in the marching band and served as class representative during his freshman and sophomore years. He was a Student of the Month for September and is employed part-time at Ford Funeral home.
Funk will attend the Air Force Academy and to study aerospace engineering and a minor in mathematics.
Lohmann is the daughter of Mike and Amy Lohmann. She has a younger sister, Claire who is a freshman at BHS.
She serves as Student Body publicist and has been involved with Student Council as an executive board member for the past three years. She is also a member of the strings program, journalism program, cross country team, National Honor Society and Drug Free Club.
She has performed in both the West Virginia All State Orchestra and WVU High School Honors Orchestra. She attends Bridgeport United Methodist Church, where she is an active member of the Youth Group and choir and plays violin.
Lohmann dances at Annabel Timms School of Ballet, volunteers as a buddy for the Bridgeport Little League Challenger Division, and writes for Connect-Bridgeport. She has also appeared in several musicals at Bridgeport High School, most recently as Grandma in “The Addams Family” and Queen Aggravain in “Once Upon a Mattress,” and helped with Shop for Tots throughout high school.
During the summer of 2014, Lohmann attended the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar and the West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts. This past summer, she was the West Virginia representative at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference in Washington D.C. and a leader in training at Camp Kno-Koma, the Diabetes Camp of West Virginia.
She was voted this year’s Homecoming Maid of Honor and was Student of the Month for October. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially at Deep Creek Lake.
She will attend West Virginia Wesleyan College in the fall.
Speaking at the Senior Assembly, to be held May 17, will be Mateah Kittle and Dante Bonamico, senior representatives.
Kittle is the daughter of Matthew Kittle and the late Dawne Kittle.
She has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school, is the vice president of the National Honor Society, editor of the yearbook, president of the Marching Band, and was a Student of the Month for September. Mateah was a freshman homecoming princess and the 2015 Homecoming Queen.
Kittle runs cross country and track and has been captain of the girls’ sprint team for two years. She was a varsity member of the 2014 state championship track team and the 2013 and 2015 state runners-up track teams. She has been a part of Frontline for four years and a co- captain for two years. She plays flute in the symphonic band and participates in honor bands throughout the state.
She is a devotional leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of Living Water Church in Philippi. In the summer, she works at the Bridgeport City Pool concession stand and loves to hunt and fish at her family farm in Barbour County. In the winter, she loves to ski and snowboard at Wisp.
Kittle is planning to attend WVU in the fall of 2016 and major in biomedical engineering.
Bonamico is the son of Nunzio and Petrina Bonamico. He is also a brother to Maria, Nunzio, and Anthony. He has averaged a GPA of 3 .66 throughout high school, serves as senior class secretary, and was a Student of the Month for December.
He is a three-year letterman in baseball, football, and basketball. He and his team set out and won a triple crown in football, and is hoping to win a third State Championship in baseball. He was captain of the first team All-State defense in 2014 and 2015.
He attends All Saints Parish in Bridgeport and is an active member in the church. In his spare time, he helps out at his family’s restaurant, Oliverio’s Ristorante. Dante enjoys the outdoors and fishing, camping, skiing, and riding four-wheelers.
Bonamico is planning on attending WVU in the fall where he will study business management and play football.
