JANE LEW, W.Va. (WV News) — Mary Lucille Reel, 93, of Lost Creek, peacefully departed this world from the comfort of her home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
Born in McWhorter on November 29, 1930, Mary was the daughter of the late Nathan Goff McWhorter and Dora Ellen Ramsburg McWhorter.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Forrest Reel; her only child, Richard Ray Reel; and three siblings: William D. McWhorter, James G. McWhorter, and Helen R. Carder.
Mary graduated from Lost Creek High School in 1948, a testament to her dedication and perseverance. Her love for her hometown extended to her place of worship, the McWhorter United Methodist Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith.
Mary was a culinary genius, dedicating over 15 years of her life to spreading joy through her cooking at Robin’s Nest in Jane Lew. She was known for her infectious smile that was as warm as the meals she prepared. Her love for cooking was not confined to her professional life; it was a hobby that filled her home with delicious aromas and her heart with joy.
Mary was equally passionate about canning food and baking, her specialties being remembered fondly by all who were lucky enough to taste them. Her love for cooking was not just about the food, but the love and care she put into every dish, every jar, and every baked good. Above all else, Mary cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
Forever cherishing their memories of Mary are three grandchildren: Nathan Reel of Lost Creek, Ethan Reel and wife, Samantha, of Lost Creek, and Tasha Reel and husband, Trevor Lipscomb, of West Union; four great-grandchildren: Landon, Braelynn, Ember, and Avaya Reel; special niece, Cathy Weber, and husband, John, of Jane Lew; and several additional nieces and nephews.
She was a beacon of love, strength, and resilience, leaving a legacy of unconditional love and hard work.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Road in Jane Lew from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
