CLARKSBURG — Work could start next week on the demolition of the old bus station in Clarksburg, city officials say.
Representatives from the city, Urban Renewal Authority and contractor Reclaim will sign the contract Thursday, City Manager Martin Howe said.
“At the conclusion of the contract signing, the engineer (Stantec), the contractor and city will have a pre-demolition meeting to review the project,” Howe said.
Reclaim already has provided the required 10-day notification to the state Department of Environmental Protection, Howe said.
That means the company is eligible to begin work on the project Friday, he said.
“We would anticipate they will begin the asbestos abatement process,” he added.
Work likely will start the following week, Clarksburg Councilman Zeke Lopez said. Lopez is vice president of the board of directors for the Central West Virginia Transit Authority, which owns the Fourth Street structure.
The URA awarded the demolition contract to Reclaim for $255,999, Howe said.
CENTRA has paid the URA $264,049 in advance, Howe said.
That amount covers the contract, plus $8,050 in engineering fees the URA incurred, Howe said.
The project will involve demolishing the old Greyhound Bus depot down to U.S. 50 and building a retaining wall and access road off Fourth Street, Lopez said.
