We’re excited that today’s edition is much larger than usual, with our 20-page regular newspaper bolstered by our 48-page Annual Report on the North Central West Virginia economy.
We encourage our readers to join with us as we celebrate the tremendous growth our region and state have enjoyed in the past year. It’s a story that should be told, and as proud West Virginians, we should all shout of that success to the mountaintops.
We’re pleased to be able to tell these stories, to share the success of businesses and industries that have bolstered our region.
From health care to high technology, aerospace to higher education and tourism, NCWV has outstanding companies and leaders who are helping to forge a better and brighter tomorrow with their efforts today.
We ask that as you read these stories, and later when you go out into the community this Easter weekend, you give thought and praise to those people in our communities, our churches, our schools, our businesses and our organizations who are leading this effort to create and tell the West Virginia success story.
We firmly believe that the success of West Virginia starts with each of us and our willingness to get involved, to work hard, to invest in our businesses and communities — all to make our little part of this world a better place.
It is true that success takes vision and strong leadership. And as a whole, we believe West Virginia has benefited from both of those — from the Office of the Governor to the halls of the Capitol.
Likewise, on the local level, it takes strong county and municipal leadership to create the atmosphere and teamwork necessary to achieve great things.
We have seen what happens when the leadership is lacking, the thinking is parochial and the greed of a few hampers the success of many.
We have seen when internal and external forces have forced some companies to shutter and some industries to move to other markets, many of them overseas.
But we have also seen the revitalization of the region’s and state’s economy, the diversification of industries and the opportunities that have unfolded thanks to great achievements in technology and health care, as well as the continued success in natural resources extraction and power generation.
These are the stories we share, with the hope that today’s best just keeps getting better. And that we as proud West Virginians can pass on an even better tomorrow to the youth of today.
