If you have any doubt about the economic success of North Central West Virginia, just look around at the new businesses that keep opening shop.
The latest to join the local landscape is Menards, a family-owned and -run Midwestern home improvement company started in 1958. Menards is known for being a one-stop shop for home improvement needs.
The new store opens Tuesday at 6 a.m., with a grand opening weekend of events set to kick off Friday.
The new location in the Charles Pointe development in Bridgeport is Menards’ fourth in West Virginia and 337th overall, as the store has a proven track record of success.
For those thinking this is no big deal — just another retail store opening — the fact that Menards and other big retailers are locating here is proof that the economy is strong. National companies do ample market research to determine expected foot traffic and sales potential — they aren’t going to locate where they won’t be successful.
Harrison County Commission President Susan Thomas and Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang both see the benefit of the new store and what it means for the city, county and region.
“I think Menards will benefit North Central West Virginia, not necessarily just Bridgeport,” Lang said. “Menards is a very reputable family-owned business, and I think for them to take their resources and finances and take a look at West Virginia and say, ‘That’s a place we want to be,’ is a testament to Harrison County and our surrounding area.”
Thomas said a store like Menards will spur other development.
“With Menards, I think there will come more retail development, which I think is huge for the county,” she said. “I also think this will actually spread out beyond Harrison County. I think people will come from near and far.”
Adding a highly reputable Menards to the retail marketplace will provide consumers with plenty of options, put more people to work and send a clear message that Harrison County and the North Central West Virginia region are open for business.
We welcome the new retail store and encourage residents to stop by to see what it has to offer.
