BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WV News) — William Gaylord Flowers, 91, of Bridgeport, passed away Monday morning, April 8, 2024, in the United Hospital Center.
He was born in Wilsonburg on October 27, 1932, a son of the late Gaylord Daily and Merle (Gerrard) Flowers.
He is survived by the love of his life, Carole Lee (Drumpus) Flowers, whom he married April 10, 1955. Also surviving are two daughters, Tara Luton and her husband Michael, Ft. Pierce, FL; and Kelly Marple of Keyser; his grandchildren, Julie (David) Cochran; Carie Willis (James Brooks); Christy Marple Drieling; Chris (Sarah) Luton; Jaclyn (Willy) Clark; Nathan (Megan) Luton; Ashleigh (Drew) Meyers; and Colbey (Amanda) Rude; 16 great-grandchildren, Audrey Cochran (J.D. Smith); D.J. Cochran; Carley (Noah) Carman; Jocelyn Marple; Wolf Luton; Olivia, D’Andre and Robert Willis; Penelope and Olly Clark; Abigail and Allison Rude; Junia, Levi, Evie and Sophia Meyers; four great-great-grandchildren, Grayson Cochran; Waylon and Daisy Smith; and Jayon Dedeaux; and a brother, Donald Flowers and his wife Betty of Moundsville complete his family.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Flowers; a grandson, Joshua Jon Marple; and a son-in-law, John R. Marple.
Bill was a graduate of Victory High School, and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1994 after many years of service from CNG Transmission Corp as a service personnel. He enjoyed old cars, gardening, landscaping, the Grand Ole Opry, but most of all he enjoyed his family. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a member of the WV Oil and Gas Association.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., where services will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. George Bramble presiding. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
