BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WV News) — Ruth Kathron Patterson Olds, 82, of Bridgeport, passed away on April 13, 2024, at her residence.
She was born May 24, 1941, to the late John Wesley Patterson and Susie Dolly Ludwick Patterson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Deon “Mickey” Olds, on August 21, 1984.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Betty Jean Olds of Bridgeport; and a son, Emory Deon “Mickey” Olds, Jr. of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Latisha Higgins (Nickolas) of AR, Samantha Wright (Jesse) of AR, Rosalin Wesley Ash (Christopher) of Jane Lew, Willis Edward “Harley” Ash III of Bridgeport; great-grandchildren, Cheza Lantz, Nickolas Higgins, Trinity Bournes, Kayden Travis, all of AR, Shyan McKnight of OH; and Canyonn Ritter of Jane Lew. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Sue Olds; her siblings; John Patterson, Roy Patterson, Jesse Patterson, Harry Patterson, and Larry Patterson, all of Kingwood; and Ada Patterson of OH.
Ruth worked as a caregiver for the elderly up until retirement. She enjoyed coloring adult coloring books, solving jig-saw puzzles, reading historic romance, watching her “Days of our Lives” and movies. She loved taking walks with her daughter, Betty Jean, and riding along with her son Mickey on his paper route. She also adored her Yorkie, Abigail. She was a great cook and a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and she loved having family around. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In keeping with her wishes, Ruth will be cremated, with no public services. She will be interred alongside her husband at WV National Cemetery at a later date.
