NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WV News) — George W. Adrian passed away February 26, 2024, in Fishersville, Virginia.
He was called Billy and Uncle Bill by close family members.
He is survived by one daughter, Dianne Adrian Byrer, and her husband John of Staunton, Virginia; and his sister, Jean Robertson of Stephens City, Virginia.
He was the son of Samuel and Eugenia Adrain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Adrian, who passed away on April 5, 2020, and a daughter, Susan Adrian Kellar, and a son, Richard A. Adrian.
He grew up in Ashburn, Virginia. He served in the Navy for 20 years as a supply officer on many battleships, including the aircraft carrier USS America. He often was gone for six months or more and moved often throughout the course of his service.
When he retired, he moved to Doddridge County, West Virginia, where he farmed, hunted, was active in the community and sold real estate. He, along with his wife Barbara, hosted many gatherings of friends and family at their home over the years. Barbara and George were charter members of the Doddridge County Riding Club.
Barbara passed away in April of 2020 at the beginning of the COVID pandemic.
Therefore, a memorial service will be held by the family for both Barbara and George at Big Battle Church on Big Battle Run Road in Salem, WV, on Saturday March 2, 2024, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Paws and Claws Doddridge County Humane Society, 1286 Wiseman Run, Salem, WV 26426.
