CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Emily Gay (Fletcher) Wilder, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was called home to be with Jesus on March 12, 2024, at the age of 80.
She passed peacefully with her daughters by her side.
Emily was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on September 18, 1943, to William and Marjorie Fletcher.
Emily attended Salem High School and went on to attend Salem College. She was a member of The United Methodist Church, as well as The Eastern Stars.
On July 8, 1989, she married the love of her life, John Wilder Jr. Mom was the most caring, selfless person in our lives. She exemplified faith, unconditional love and a toughness that will forever be unmatched.
Her love of cooking and baking showed through her various dishes that were a family staple. Poached eggs for breakfast to peanut butter fudge and of course, her chocolate sheet cake that was never left out of any birthday celebration. Emily had such a giving heart, which led her to spoil those around her.
Emily is survived by her four children, Samuel (Jennifer) Ritter of Rockford, MI, William Ritter of West Olive, MI, Sarah Barker of Indian Trail, NC, and Katherine (Seth) Golden of Matthews, NC. Nanny also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren, Kody, Courtney, Jesse, Emily, Samantha, Grayson, Abilene, Sarah and Zoe. Emily had two great-grandchildren whom she adored, Kali Barker and Adeline Raisch.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilder Jr., and her parents, William and Marjorie Fletcher.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery.
