NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WV News) — Doris M. Rowan DeVono, 94, of Clarksburg, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at United Hospital Center after a brief illness, surrounded by her entire family.
She was born in Buckhannon on March 13, 1930, a daughter of the late Dana A. and Madeline Royer Rowan.
She is survived by her husband and soulmate, Joseph DeVono, Jr.
Also surviving are two sons, Wm. Kevin DeVono and his wife Kirsten of Bridgeport, and Dr. Joseph DeVono and his wife Dr. Mary Faw-DeVono of Charleston; one daughter, Roni Rae Bunnell, and her husband Sonny of Clarksburg; one granddaughter, Heather Marie Burnside, and her husband Michael of Clarksburg; one grandson, Joseph Michael (Joey) DeVono of Bridgeport; one great-grandson, Christian Michael Burnside of Clarksburg; one nephew, Frank Vita of Clarksburg; and one niece, Lisa Rosselli of Washington, D.C.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Vita.
Mrs. DeVono was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. She retired from United Hospital Center in February 1988 with 22 years of service, holding the position of administrative assistant and patient representative to the hospital president, D. Max Francis. Following retirement at UHC, she was employed as administrative secretary to L. Joseph Trupo and Wayne Godwin, former sheriffs of Harrison County.
Her family was the highlight of her life, and she was always there with helping hands and looking for opportunities to give to others. Her motto was “Joy Through Giving.” She will be remembered for her compassion and always making life interesting, and always wanting to make sure the family was together for holidays and birthdays. Her Catholic religion and her family were the most important things in her life. Doris was Roman Catholic by faith and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg.
Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3- 7 p.m., where a Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Casey Mahone as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
