BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WV News) — Charles Wayne McDaniel, 88, of Hepzibah, passed away Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024, in the United Hospital Center.
He was born in Meadowbrook on September 9, 1935, a son of the late Charles Lewis McDaniel and Mary Elizabeth (McCauley) McDaniel.
On October 25, 1958, he married Mildred Lou (McGlothlin), who preceded him in death on October 6, 2020, after 62 years of marriage.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Sue Moore, and her husband Jim of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Charles Ryan McDaniel of Salem, Matthew S. Moore and his wife Brittany of Fairmont, Michael Moore of Mannington, and Aimee K. Moore of Fairmont; Melinda Shaw Kreps, whom he considered a daughter; 7 great-grandchildren, Trenton Moore, Lochlan Moore, Tynlee Moore, Colten Moore, Justin Upton, Brandon Upton and Trevor Upton. His sisters-in-law, Ruby Maxwell of Salem, VA, Pauline Harrison of Pulaski, VA, and Margaret Ann Cochran and her husband Danny of Pounding Mill, VA; and many nieces and nephews complete his family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Charles David McDaniel. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sisters, Charlene Sisler and Juanita Johnson; and five brothers, Henry, Jim, Richard, Roger and John McDaniel.
Charlie retired from Fisher Auto and Craig Motor Service. He served in the US Army, and was very proud of his service. He enjoyed family get-togethers, including cookouts and family poker games. He was an avid WVU and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons play in sports and attending most of their games.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paige, his primary physician at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Misty Via, from the VA Home-Based Care, everyone at Visiting Angels, especially Diana Nutter, WVU Hospice, Bi-County Nutrition, and Dr Ali and all of the clinical doctors at the VA Hospital.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 29, 2024, where services will be held at noon with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding. Interment will follow in West Virginia National Cemetery, where Military Funeral Honors will be accorded.
