NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WV News) — Assunta “Margaret” Spatafore, age 89, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at her residence in Summit Park surrounded by her daughters.
She was born in Shinnston, WV, on February 6, 1935, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Assunta DeFrancesco Felosa.
She was married to her beloved husband for 51 years, Joe Robert Spatafore, who preceded her in death on September 22, 2008.
Surviving are four daughters, Clara Spatafore Bartling and her husband Philip of Morgantown, Teresa Cole and her husband Alan of Pittsburgh, Mary Gabriele and her husband Fred of Morgantown and Joanna Graper and her husband Richard of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous supportive nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Spatafore was a retired teacher’s aide with the Harrison County Board of Education. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marconi Lodge, Italian Sons & Daughters and the Knights of Columbus. Margaret lived her entire life in Harrison County. She will be fondly remembered by her friends in the HC School District, the Knights of Columbus, the HC Senior Citizen Center and all the residents of Summit Park. She was a proud member of the W.Va. Italian Heritage Festival Honorary Council.
Margaret enjoyed spending time with her extended family, cooking, baking, sewing, building puzzles, playing bingo, and pulling the “one-armed bandits.” One of her favorite pastimes was to sit on her front porch visiting with her neighbors and family. She was always the first to volunteer to help out in the community, at her daughters’ schools, her church, and anywhere that needed an extra hand. She was a woman of many talents. One neighbor described her as “the first person you would call if you needed someone to sew a prom dress or light your hot water tank.” Margaret’s larger-than-life personality will be missed by her family and friends.
A special thank you to her remarkable medical and spiritual teams.
