CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Harrison County’s Federal Emergency Management Agency Disaster Relief Center will cease functioning Friday.
Residents of Boone, Calhoun, Clay, Harrison, and Kanawha counties who were affected by the Aug. 28-30 flooding will still be able to apply for disaster assistance online, via phone, or on the FEMA app until April 1, said Harrison County Disaster Relief Center Manager Melissa McCleery.
Those who were affected can seek help online at DiasterAssistance.gov and over the phone at 1-800-621-3362.
“We encourage anyone that was affected by the disaster to come out and register to see if we do have assistance available to them,” McCleery said.
All initial submissions for assistance must be presented to FEMA no later than April 1.
Applicants are given 60 days to appeal a submission that was denied on the grounds of the requirement of more documentation, McCleery said.
“[Registering in person] can be easier if they are coming back to submit documents for an appeal. We can help you navigate through the appeal letter,” McCleery said.
More than $2 million has been approved to be distributed to West Virginia residents. “We are excited about that,” McCleery said of the milestone.
