BRIDGEPORT — Federal agents were executing a search warrant on Best Care Pharmacy in Bridgeport, as well as three other locations Wednesday, officials confirmed.
A Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was seen leaving the Best Care Pharmacy location in Bridgeport refused to comment.
“Can’t make a statement ... the U.S. Attorney’s Office will be making a statement. Maybe not today, but in the near future,” she said.
But Chris Zumpetta-Parr, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld II’s office, said no press conference was scheduled and no information will be released unless someone is charged in federal court.
DEA agents were seen entering Best Care Pharmacy in Bridgeport this morning. Officials said pharmacies in Belington, Lumberport and Weston also were being searched.
Customers were being turned away from the Bridgeport location, where agents were seen carrying DEA-marked evidence boxes into and out of the business.
The Greater Harrison Drug Task Force and another drug task force were on scene in Bridgeport.
At the Lumberport Best Care Pharmacy, a sign on the front door said: “We are being audited today; prescriptions being filled slowly.”
Agents were seen inside of the store and two unmarked vehicles were in the parking lot.
In Bridgeport, agents were seen opening pill bottles before an official covered the drive-through window. They were also seen carrying boxes out of the back door of the establishment.
Bridgeport Mayor Mario Blount lists himself as manager, owner and partner of the Bridgeport store on his LinkedIn page. Blount was observed on the scene.
There was no record of the warrant in federal court files. However, search warrants are sealed until they are served, and sometimes are kept closed after that.
Bridgeport Deputy Chief Randy Hartley was also on the scene talking to the DEA agents and then left.
