Robert C. Byrd’s Avery Thrush will look to secure a spot in the state meet when she competes in the Class AA Region II meet on Friday in Buckhannon.
States my freshman year. That was my first time competing on a big stage and it motivated me to do well the rest of my career.
Describe coach Bowie in one word?
Passionate. He’s always at the track and he’s willing to do everything to help us do our best.
Do you have any pre-meet superstitions?
Try to think positively and don’t make predictions. I go through the same warm up paces and basically try to remain positive.
What’s your favorite movie?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
What’s your pre-meet hype music?
Some kind of alternative rock like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Something that that makes me feel like I have more swagger than I do.
What’s your favorite subject in school?
English

Parks and Recreation or The Office
Graduation is coming up, what’s your favorite high school memory that doesn’t involve athletics?
Getting to be prom queen this year.
What’s one track and field event you’ve never done, you’d like to try once?
Pole vault. I’m scared of it, but it looks really run.
Other than track, what’s the best part of the spring?
The change in the weather. Winter feels like it drags on, so it’s nice when it gets warmer and you can get outside and run around.
If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Out west in Montana, I love it there.

Your teammates are like your family.
What advice would you give a young kid just getting into sports?
You get out of it what you put into it. Show up to practice every day with a great attitude and know that you will be successful if you give it your best.
