Nicholas Ray Allen
FLEMINGTON — Nicholas Ray Allen, age 26, of Flemington, WV, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012.
He was born on March 29, 1986, in Clarksburg, WV, a son of Larry Ray Sandy of Bridgeport, WV, and Edith Adorah Allen of Rosemont, WV.
In addition to his parents, Nicholas is survived by maternal grandparents, Merle Brown of Rosemont and Patricia Williams and husband Jim of Bridgeport: paternal grandfather, George Sandy of Bridgeport; one brother, Paul Sandy of Bridgeport; three sisters, Kristen Sandy of Rosemont, Erin and Teresa Sandy, both of Clarksburg; and one nephew who he dearly loved, Jack Dodrill. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him always.
Nicholas is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Erma Sandy.
Nicholas enjoyed working and did various construction jobs. He loved hunting, fishing and riding dirt bikes.
At Nicholas’ request, his body will be cremated, and his family will hold a Memorial Gathering on Monday, July 16, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home in Flemington, WV.

Anna Rose Bowers
PHILIPPI — Anna Rose Bowers, age 80, a resident of Rt. 1, Beech Lick Road, Philippi, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012, in the United Hospital Center.
She was born August 1, 1931, in Barbour Co., a daughter of the late William Eyster and Alberta (Skidmore) Shaffer.
Anna Rose was twice married; first on May 30, 1957, to Eldridge Sigley, who preceded her in death on July 9, 1990; and second on September 19, 1975, to John Rex Bowers, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1989.
Surviving are: Two daughters, Linda Mitchell and husband Rodney of Philippi, Carol White of Buffalo, NY; stepdaughters, Barbara Ann Sams and husband Merrold of St. Cloud, Minn., Teena Rogers and husband James of Girard, OH, Sandra Brannon of Brookfield, OH; stepson, John Bowers and wife Denise of Lumberport, WV; two grandchildren, Mandy (Mitchell) Sisson and Andrew White; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trevin Sisson.
Anna Rose was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Shaffer and Dorman Skidmore.
She retired as a cook from Philip Barbour High School. She was a member of the Brushy Fork CEOS, Elk City United Methodist Women and Elk City United Methodist Church.
Anna liked to crochet and quilt.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, on Saturday, July 14, from 5-8 p.m. and on Sunday, July 15, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., the service hour, with Rev. Linda Payton officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Patty Lou Carter
SHINNSTON — Patty Lou Carter, 75, of Clark Street, Shinnston, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at her son’s home in Jacksonville, N.C.
She was born April 23, 1937, in Flemington, WV, daughter of the late Chester Paul Lane and Eva Stella Tenney Lane.
She was married on August 18, 1957, to Weldon Carter, who preceded her in death on October 19, 1993.
Patty is survived by two sons, Paul Carter and wife Shela of Jacksonville, N.C., James R “Jimmy” Carter and wife Mary of Fairfax, VA; one stepson, William “Bill” Carter and wife Barbara of Manassas, VA; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Sue Tyyska of Racine, Wisconsin, and Sharon “Sheri” Reed of Gypsy; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Paul Lane; one sister, Laura Edaline Lane.
Patty resided in the Washington, D.C., area for 30 years, where she worked for the Pentagon. Patty will be missed for her quick wit, happy disposition, gentle and kind heart to all. We love you Mom.

Anita Sue Moore
SHINNSTON — Anita Sue Moore, 54, of Route 1, Folsom, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Heritage of Bridgeport.
She was born in Clarksburg, August 21, 1957, a daughter of the late Ralph E. and Dollie Mildred Gilbert Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Moore, Sr., on May 15, 2011.
Surviving are three sons, Jason William Watson and his wife, Amy, Jacksonburg, Tyler William Moore and his fiancée, Anna Pigott, Folsom, and George “Bill” Moore, Jr., Gypsy; two daughters, Tamara Jo Moore and her husband, Donald Dodson, Cape Mae Courthouse, NJ, and Shannon Marie Moore and her finacé, Paul Urtson, Flemington; seven grandchildren, Garrette Watson, Konner Watson, Timothy Baker, Kendra Urtso, Jerry Davis, Zachery Davis and Shelly Davis; two great-grandchildren, Jason and Pierson Davis; two brothers, Thomas Wallace, Sr., and his wife, Teresa, Folsom, and Rick Wallace and his wife, Suzanne, Indianapolis, IN.
Anita had formerly worked for Hills Department Store and for Ames. She enjoyed raising rabbits and birds.

PHILIPPI — Margaret Jean Murphy, age 91, a resident of Mansfield Place of Broaddus Hospital, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012.
She was born April 23, 1921, in Grafton, WV, a daughter of the late Warren and Nell (Gasser) Murphy.
Surviving are: Two aunts, Flora “Totty” Delaney of Philippi, Ruth Delaney of Mansfield Place, Philippi.
Margaret liked to listen to country music, and she was a Methodist by faith.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 14, at 2 p.m. in the Bluemont Cemetery in Grafton with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating.

Rosalea Carr Nicholson
BRIDGEPORT — Mrs. Rosalea Carr Nicholson, 95 years of age, of Clarksburg, WV, died on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, WV.
She was born February 21, 1917, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Hazel Radabaugh Carr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Badie Nicholson, in 1961.
Mrs. Nicholson is survived by four nieces and their families. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A Service of Remembrance will be celebrated by the family at a later date.

PENNSBORO — Gale Smith, 86, of Pennsboro, died July 11, 2012, at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg.
He was born August 10, 1925, at Cabin Run, Doddridge County, WV, the son of the late Chauncy W. and Clara Etta Adams Smith.
Gale worked as a mail carrier, farmer and timber worker and later retired as a truck driver for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a U.S. Army veteran and attended Greenwood United Methodist Church. He was an avid deer hunter and furnished game to families in need.
He is survived by one daughter, Marlene Gayle Wilson (Eddie) of St. Marys; sisters, Margery Talkington of Pennsboro and Rosemary Shannon (Don) of VA; brother, Dr. Steven Smith (Linda) of Buckhannon; grandchildren, Julia Ann Lopez (Joe) of Greenwood, Gary Mitchel Talkington (Lisa) of Chesapeake, VA, Michelle Leggett (Scott) of St. Marys and Melanie Wilson of Volo, IL; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Heather, Anthony, Brooke, Noah and Henry; and great-great-grandchildren, Jordin, Paiten and Maddox.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion E. Waldo Smith; daughter, Sandra Ann Talkington; and Sister Eva Hess.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Rev. Randy Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
