WHEELING — Michael J. Caruso, M.D., 85, of Wheeling, died Friday, October 24, 2014, at his home.
He was born December 24, 1928, in Clarksburg, WV, a son of the late Thomas and Mary Fragmeni Caruso.
Dr. Michael Caruso was a beloved doctor who practiced in the Wheeling community for over 55 years. Michael was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was a Marine veteran. Dr. Caruso was a member of the American Medical Assoc., WV Medical Assoc., Ohio County Medical Assoc., Lifetime member of the American College of Internal Medicine, Lifetime member of the American Chest Physicians, Jacob Schwinn Study Club and Italian American of the Year in West Virginia in 1994.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Caruso.
Surviving are his seven children, Thomas Caruso and his wife Michele of Oakton, VA, Stan Caruso and his wife Debbie of Williamsburg, VA, Michael J. Caruso and his wife Cheryl A. of Wheeling, Lisa Yahn and her husband Ret. Col. Robert of Valencia, CA, Paul A. Caruso of Chesapeake, VA, Stephanie Wise and her husband Charlie of Vienna, VA, Michelle Caruso-Decoufle and her husband Chris Decoufle of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Angela Romano of Lawrenceville, NJ; two brothers, Fred Caruso and his wife Annie of Ridgefield, CT, and Dr. Peter Caruso and his wife Mary Frances of Hilton Head, SC; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Caruso of Clarksburg, WV (wife of the late Vincent Caruso); and 21 grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Monday, October 27, 2014, from 2-8 p.m. and Tuesday, October 28, from 2-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with Msgr. Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant. A vigil service will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
