BRIDGEPORT — Mary Mancina Spatafore, age 95, passed away April 25, 2015, at her home in Bridgeport.
She was born January 20, 1920, in San Giovanni In Fiore, Italy, daughter of the late Joseph and Teresa Greco Mancina.
On April 14, 1941, she was married to Salvatore, “Jack” Spatafore, who preceded her in death on March 15, 1977.
Mary’s family was the essence and the substance of her life. Her first interest was God and the church. But after that came her family. Anyone who knew her soon learned that her heart was centered on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She left this earth with six children, 26 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. Our mother loved and was most proud of her family. A visit from them would always light up her face.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Shull and her husband Ron, Bridgeport; five sons, Louis Spatafore and wife Maria, Bridgeport, Joseph Spatafore and wife Joyce, Bridgeport, William Spatafore and wife Beckie, Bridgeport, John Spatafore and wife Beverly, Bridgeport, and Sam Spatafore and wife Sherry, Bridgeport; 26 grandchildren, Maria Dufford and husband, Bridgeport, Marcus Spatafore and wife, Pittsburgh, Gina Cooke and husband, Bristow, Virginia, Eric Spatafore, Bridgeport, Christy Horne and husband, Bridgeport, John Spatafore II, and wife, Bridgeport, Jason Spatafore, Bridgeport, David Spatafore, Bridgeport, Andrea Thompson and husband, Bridgeport, Michael Shull, Pittsburgh, Janet Shepherd and husband, Bridgeport, Tom Shull and wife, Bridgeport, Mary Louise Lewis and husband, Bridgeport, Jennifer Tripplett and husband, Bridgeport, Jack Spatafore and wife, Bridgeport, Janelle DeMarco and husband, Bridgeport, Jeanette Laverdierre and husband, Clarksburg, Joe Spatafore II, Bridgeport, Sam Spatafore and wife, Bridgeport, Julie Cava and husband, Bridgeport, Bill Spatafore and wife, Bridgeport, Valerie Lively and husband, Bridgeport, Sam Spatafore III, Bridgeport, Matthew Spatafore, Bridgeport, and Andrew Spatafore, Charlotte, N.C., Marissa Bonasso and husband, Morgantown; and 40 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rosa Ventura, Italy, and two brothers, John Mancina, Clarksburg, and Antonio Mancina, Italy.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mary’s memory to All Saints Catholic Church, 317 East Main Street, Bridgeport.
Friends will be received at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 East Main Street, Bridgeport, on Tuesday from noon – 8 p.m. The Vigil Rite will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, in the church at 10 a.m. with Reverend Father Benedict Kapa presiding. The interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Clarksburg.
