FAIRMONT — Mary Lasobek, 85, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the home of her daughter, where she has been residing for the past several months.
Born August 29, 1929, in Fairmont, she was the daughter of the late Rocco Fucello and the late Concetta (Pantelone) Fucello.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Lasobek, and is survived by her only child, Vanessa Lasobek.
Mary was Catholic by faith and was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. After several years, she retired from Westinghouse in 1971 to manage full-time her and John’s Harley-Davidson dealership.
She was co-founder of Lasobek Harley-Davidson, along with her husband, John. Operating the business from 1961 to 2002, they brought the Harley-Davidson name to Fairmont, and the name of Lasobek was well-known throughout the tri-state area. She and John always took time to greet everyone who walked through the doors. They enjoyed listening and sharing stories and experiences with all who rode motorcycles. The business was sold in 2002 to Triple S Harley-Davidson of Morgantown.
When time allowed, Mary and John enjoyed spending time at their house in Springfield (near the river), where she enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and spending time with family.
Mary was one of 11 siblings and is survived by her sister, Molly Mullens (and husband, Tobias), one sister-in-law, Patsy Fucello (wife of Joseph Fucello); and several special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Minnie Nestor, Anna Zappacosta (husband, William Zappacosta, deceased), Rose Maust (husband Grover Maust, deceased), Catherine White (husband, Buddy White, deceased), Julia Sloboda (husband, Charles Sloboda, deceased); brothers: Nick Fucello (wife, Pauline, deceased), Antonio Fucillo (wife, Mafalda, deceased), Joseph Fucello and Hugh Fucello. Also she was preceded in death by some nieces and nephews.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no public viewing or funeral. A private family graveside committal will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Fairmont, with the Rev. Father Walter Jagela officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont.
