NORTHUMBERLAND, Pa. — John Burt Beverlin, 66, of Windy Hill Road, Shermans Dale, Pa, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at the Lebanon Valley Veterans Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
John was born February 26, 1949, in Barryton, Michigan, a son of the late Dean and Jean (Bastedo) Beverlin. He married Magda Ruck on July 22, 1986, who survives.
John was a 1967 graduate of Doddridge County High School and also attended Salem High School until his Junior year. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States Army, where he served for 20 years of dedicated service with two tours in Vietnam and Germany and one tour in Korea. John will receive the Presidential Memorial Certificate for his service time in the Army.
Everyone who knew John, enjoyed his musical abilities that he learned from his father, who played every stringed instrument and the piano. While serving in the military in the Washington, D.C., area at the Pentagon, John was the lead singer in several bands. He and his guitar will be missed at family gatherings by his siblings and all his wonderful, beloved cousins in the Clarksburg area.
John was a member of the Salem VFW Post 9251 in Salem, WV.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Beverlin Alami and her husband Youness of Camp Hill, Pa., and Vanessa J Beverlin of Shermans Dale, Pa., and one son, Kevin Beverlin of Shermans Dale, Pa. He was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Anthony, Adam, Ali and Aminia from his daughter Jeanne. He is also survived by three brothers, Dean and Nancy Beverlin of Buckhannon, WV, Dan and Judy Beverlin of Clarksburg, WV, and Bill and Robin Beverlin of Ft. Royal, Va, and one sister, Kathie Beverlin Titus and her husband Butch of Salem, WV, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the Lighthouse Church, 535 Mount Rock Road, Newville, Pa., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. John’s longtime friend from the military, Rev. Paul Frye, will be officiating. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery at Fort Indian Gap in Annville, Pa.
