PHILIPPI — Helen Louise Hudkins Howell, 91, of Brushy Fork Community, Bridgeport, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015, in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, following an extended illness.
She was born September 27, 1923, at Mount Clare, Harrison County, a daughter of the late Fay and Orpha (Reed) Edwards.
Twice married, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bonard Eurit Hudkins, and is survived by her second husband, Kinsey Howell of Bridgeport.
Also surviving are one daughter, Patricia Jo Flint and husband, Henry, Bridgeport; two sons, Clifford Eurit Hudkins and Charles Lee Hudkins and wife, Darlene, all of Bridgeport; three sisters, Wilma L. Simons and Nellie Maude Crislip, both of Bridgeport, Emma Jean Shoulders, Philippi; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn Louise Rowe; by two sons, Roger Dale Hudkins and Arthur Clyde Hudkins; by two granddaughters, Jackie Hudkins and Stacy Hudkins; by one sister, Anna Marie Marks; by four brothers, Bernard Fay Edwards, Clyde William Edwards, Robert Lee Edwards and Ronald Glenn Edwards, and by two daughters-in-law, Brenda Hudkins and Judy Hudkins.
Mrs. Howell was a homemaker and a consummate cook and baker. She enjoyed caring for others. She attended the Gospel Barn Assembly at Stonecoal.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 966 South Main Street, Philippi. Pastor Jim Davis and Pastor Selvy Jr. Mayle will officiate and interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery on Brushy Fork.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., the funeral hour, on Sunday.
