MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University officials recently received word from the Higher Learning Commission that its program accreditation status has been continued. An external team visited WVU in April for an extensive evaluation of WVU’s programs and operations.
“I believe what the Commission found was a University on the move,” said President Gordon Gee. “With that said, we still have work to do in two areas. We need to demonstrate a culture of assessment across the University and our divisional campuses and improve the first-time pass rate of our nursing students at the WVU Institute of Technology. I believe these are realistic expectations and appropriate actions are under way.”
“We are pleased with the continuation of accreditation,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Joyce McConnell. “The process began over two years ago with a self-study to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement in our programs and operations and moved to a site visit April 7-9 with formal meetings, forums and informal conversations with faculty, staff, students, administration and alumni. This final designation shows our commitment to the standards of accreditation and the value we place on the self-study process as a way to improve and to learn from those with an external perspective.”
