CLARKSBURG — A Clarksburg woman on probation for stealing her elderly, cancer-stricken neighbor’s pain medication has violated her alternative release and is now considered a fugitive after failing to appear in court Friday.
Harrison County Chief Judge Thomas A. Bedell ordered Stephanie Lynn Wolfe, 33, arrested on sight when she missed the 11:45 a.m. hearing. The court received information that Wolfe may be staying in the Glen Falls area.
Harrison Assistant Prosecutor Susan Morris and Probation Officer Richard Waddell Jr. have accused Wolfe of violating her probation by failing to report; admitting the use of Xanax, subutex, Adderall and marijuana without prescriptions; and committing two counts of fraudulent use of an access device in Clarksburg.
Wolfe was placed on probation for 5 years from March 5 on a burglary charge. But as part of the sentence, Bedell ordered the defendant to serve the first 4 months in jail.
That came after Wolfe showed up late for her sentencing hearing and then focused on herself rather than the victim.
“My guilt eats at me daily. Guilt is cancer,” Wolfe said during the March hearing. “It will confine you, torture you, consume you, destroy you as a person. It is a black wall. It is a thief. Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death.
“William J. Clinton once said, ‘If you live long enough, you will make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a far better person. It’s how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is to never quit, never quit, never quit,’” Wolfe told the court in March.
Wolfe’s statement eight months ago came while two relatives of the victim were seated in the back of the courtroom.
On Friday, the alleged victim of the access device crime Wolfe is accused of committing was in the gallery, along with her mother. They are related to Wolfe.
Bedell started the hearing about 5 minutes late while waiting to see if the defendant would show. He then had Deputy Jeremy Jaumot call Wolfe’s name three times in the hallways of the Harrison County Courthouse’s fourth floor.
Harrison Assistant Defender Vanessa Welch had told the court that recent attempts to contact Wolfe by phone and mail were unsuccessful.

— A 61-year-old Glen Falls woman has been charged with malicious wounding in the stabbing of her 66-year-old boyfriend at their dwelling, Harrison Chief Deputy Steve Johnson said Friday.
The victim was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment of several knife wounds, Johnson said. An attempt to learn the victim’s condition wasn’t immediately successful.
The motive for the crime remains under investigation by Harrison Deputy Josh Cumberledge and Sgt. Rob Waybright, the chief added.
Defendant Martha Matheny’s initial appearance before Harrison Magistrate Keith Marple was delayed at first while authorities searched for a sign language interpreter. Matheny is unable to hear or to speak, according to Johnson.
Once the court session was held, Matheny’s bond was set at $25,000 and she was taken to jail.
Law enforcement was called to the scene at 4:13 a.m., according to Johnson.
— Felisha Dawn Powers, 29, of Clarksburg, has waived her probable cause hearing in Harrison County before Senior Magistrate Nancy Means.
That sends to circuit court the charge of felony third-offense shoplifting lodged against Powers by State Police Senior Trooper R.L. Glaspell.
Powers and a man acted together Oct. 18 to steal about $90 worth of merchandise from the Wilsonburg 7-Eleven, Glaspell has alleged.
