LUMBERPORT — The body of Larry Anthony Marra, a 68-year-old Lumberport man missing since July 13, was found Saturday afternoon, according to Trooper M.A. Bailey of the West Virginia State Police.
Two other sources confirmed with The Exponent Telegram that authorities had found Marra in his vehicle that had dropped over a hill near Lumberport. The sources indicated that Marra’s family had been notified as of Saturday evening. A posting on his son’s Facebook page also confirmed Marra’s death. Chris Marra posted:
“Today we received the most devastating news in my 38 years. My Father Larry Marra was found today deceased in his vehicle not far from home, off the road in a culvert. We do not yet know the cause of death, but we would appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers as we try to get through this difficult time. Also, we greatly appreciate everyone that helped in the search for my Dad. It truly means a lot to us that we have so many great friends. I will post the funeral arrangements as soon as they are known.”
Marra was said to have health issues including seizures and memory loss.
Bailey said the area in which Marra’s remains were found was so heavily wooded that State Police weren’t able to see the wrecked vehicle when they flew directly over it last week in a helicopter.
Chainsaws and other equipment were used to remove the vehicle, Bailey said, “because of where the vehicle was located — it was 250 plus feet off the road.”
The vehicle was found on County 18, just outside of Lumberport, Bailey said.
“Two passersby were on ATVs in that area when they saw tracks where it appeared somebody went off the road,” Bailey said. “They went down, saw what they saw, and then went back up and contacted law enforcement.”
As to Marra’s cause of death, Bailey said nothing will be known until an autopsy is completed by the state medical examiner’s office in Charleston. He said there’s no indication how long that autopsy may take to complete.
