SALEM — The Salem Volunteer Fire Department received a $5,200 donation from Precision Pipeline to purchase three automatic external defibrillators, AEDs, that are now required to be carried on all trucks that carry water.
The devices are used during a cardiac arrest emergency to assist with life-saving techniques and CPR, according to a press release from Salem VFD Chief Richard V. Todd.
Precision Pipeline is currently constructing two pipelines infrastructure projects in the area that will employ up to 1,000 union workers. Portions of both lines will pass within five miles of Salem, Precision Pipeline’s Mike Hampton said.
“Because we work in rural areas and in all types of weather, we face many potential hazards. It is comforting to know that there is a volunteer fire department nearby to respond to any incidents that may occur. Fortunately, we have not required the services of your organization, but we have met with some of your professional firefighters and have the utmost respect for their dedication and the service they provide to the community,” Hampton said in a letter to Todd.
