LOST CREEK — A Cape Cod home within walking distance of area schools would make a great place for a growing family, Preferred Properties Realtor David Shrieves said.
“It’s on about an acre level lot, a gorgeous farm setting in the rear of the property,” he said.
“We love it here. It’s always been someplace we enjoyed being,” home owner Criss Bragg said. “It’s quiet and peaceful. With the band and sports, it was always very convenient. It’s very convenient to work, and it’s been a great place for the kids to grow up.”
The home is within 500 yards of local schools in Lost Creek and features an oversized detached garage and free gas, Shrieves said.
“It has free gas, which is a huge convenience these days,” Bragg said. “We enjoy that.”
Shrieves said it has an unfinished basement with even more potential and also a dog kennel.
“It’s just me and my wife in this big four- or five-bedroom home,” Bragg said, adding that the two-room basement could be used as a fifth bedroom, or even a man cave.
Shrieves said they are only selling the home because their children have all grown up.
“They’re empty nesting,” he said. “The kids have gone off to college, and it’s a little large for two people.”
Bragg said the home also features a total home monitoring system that controls the temperature throughout the house, has an alarm system and cameras.
Located at 2770 Hawk Highway, the home is just a short drive away from Interstate 79, which goes north toward nearby Clarksburg and Bridgeport or south toward nearby Jane Lew and Weston.
The home, listed at $290,000, features plenty of extra space in addition to its four bedrooms and three bathrooms, Shrieves said.
“It’s well organized and laid out,” he said. “It has a nice master bedroom with a large walk-in closet and a very large master bathroom.
“It has a very nice first floor utility room,” Shrieves continued. “It has a gas stone fireplace in the first floor den area.”
A family could gather around the fireplace and enjoy the warmth of the home. Bragg said he can sit in front of the fireplace and just read a book or watch television.
“We’re very family-oriented, so we get the family over all the time,” Bragg said. “It’s just very nice. It has the huge porch on the front, 56 feet long. It’s just a nice relaxing home.”
Shrieves also said there are two bedrooms on the home’s upper level with a media room, or family room, separating the two bedrooms. Also located upstairs is a new bathroom.
“I think with four bedrooms and all that square footage in the basement, I can see a family with children in this house,” Shrieves said.
Bragg said he was born and raised in Mount Clare. Like his children, he also went to South Harrison High School. He said he hopes to be able to stay in the area after downsizing.
“We’re looking forward to another family enjoying it as much as we have,” Bragg said. “It’s definitely made for a growing family. We hope they get as much pleasure out of it as we have.”
The home is newly constructed. The original farm house on the property burned down, and instead of moving elsewhere, the family rebuilt a few years ago, Bragg said.
“When I do something, I kind of go a little overboard, so we did excess thickness in the walls and the basement,” Bragg said. “The basement stays nice and cozy all the time.”
The home’s upper level is so new that it has never been lived in, Bragg said, adding that originally, it was an unfinished attic. He said his wife uses the area for her treadmill because she is an active runner.
“It’s just a very nice and very unique house,” he said. “We’ve enjoyed it quite a bit.”
Outside the home, the backyard looks onto a very scenic view.
“There’s a huge covered porch on the front of it and a private fenced in area in the back if you want to sit in the backyard,” Shrieves said.
Because it joins a large farm in the back, sitting outdoors offers a scenic and peaceful setting to relax.
“We spend a lot of time outside,” Bragg said. “There’s a covered area to just sit out and relax in the shade. The house is surrounded by pasture, and the people behind us have horses. It’s really nice. We’re going to miss it.”
