CLARKSBURG — A 55-year-old Shinnston man has been charged with driving under the influence with injury after his truck allegedly struck two female pedestrians early Friday morning in Clarksburg.
The women were walking on Junkins Avenue about 12:05 a.m. when Timothy Jay Kuplic clipped them with the front passenger side light of his F-150 pickup, Clarksburg Police Deputy Chief James Chamberlain said.
Kuplic advised he had been drinking at Kickstands Bar before leaving in his F-150, according to Clarksburg Pfc. Jason Bartlett. The defendant "looked over to talk to his passenger and when he looked back at the road there were two females" in the road, Bartlett alleged.
Kuplic tried to swerve to avoid them, Bartlett alleged.
Authorities considered airlifting the two pedestrians, but the weather grounded the medical evacuation helicopter. The women then were transported by Harrison EMS to United Hospital Center. One of them was treated and released. The other was treated and transferred, according to UHC spokesman Matt Chisler. No further information about her condition was available Friday morning.
Clarksburg Police Sgt. Matt Louzy and Patrol Officer Joe Matheny also responded.
Kuplic was released Friday morning on a $40,000 bond after an initial appearance before Harrison Magistrate Tammy Marple.
The defendant registered a blood-alcohol content level of .102 on a secondary chemical test, Bartlett alleged.Â
