MORGANTOWN — The husband of Barbour Prosecutor Leckta Poling on Friday pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in a case in which he was accused of drugging her.
William Francis Poling Jr., 42, currently of Dellslow, Monongalia County, and formerly of Moatsville, was fined $500 by Special Magistrate Hershel R. Mullins of Monongalia County. Poling also agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution for medical bills and other costs to Ms. Poling.
The plea deal was arranged by Special Prosecutor Lea Anne Hawkins of Marion County, and defense counsel Raymond H. Yackel. Ms. Poling’s lawyer, Michael Benninger of Morgantown, indicated his client was in agreement with the plea deal.
The hearing was held in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.
State Police Sgt. G.S. Petsko previously alleged Mr. Poling crushed a tablet of the sedative Ambien and put it in Ms. Poling’s drink, “which the victim unknowingly consumed.”
Once Ms. Poling was asleep, Mr. Poling obtained his wife’s cell phone and tried to check her phone calls, messages and emails, the complaint alleged.
The couple are estranged.
