SISSONVILLE — Cara Parrish, one of the nine cast members of “BUCKWILD,” an MTV series about living young and carefree in West Virginia, is from Harrison County.
The 23-year-old attended South Harrison for four years during late middle school and early high school.
“My mom likes to collect houses. It’s like a hobby. I recall some good times with friends in the Jane Lew, Lost Creek, West Milford area,” Parrish said. “I graduated from Clay-Battelle High School.”
She also attended West Virginia University where she was pursuing a degree in child development.
“I only have one more semester. I’m not sure whether to finish in Charleston or West Virginia University. I’m working with school officials on that,” she said.
Although Parrish didn’t have a career in mind when she selected her major, it was something that interested her.
“I don’t believe in planning your future. Opportunities come and you make the best out of it that you possibly can.”
And it seems, she certainly has. Tonight, MTV will air episodes seven and eight of 12 featuring nine adventurous friends from the Sissonville area who have known each other for years.
Management has not revealed if the show has been selected for further episodes.
The entire gang has a deep pride in being from the Mountain State and knows how to party. They have transformed a dump truck into a pool, traveled to a Morgantown nightclub and gone mudding to release tensions.
Parrish has a more sensitive explanation.
“We are sincere with big hearts and huge personalities ... There is going to be relationship drama. It’s a fact of life. But we are a more light-hearted group of friends. I’m not saying no one will get their heart broken,” she said.
The former WVU Mountaineer said the show really hasn’t changed her.
“People recognize me at the mall and my number of Twitter followers has gone way up. But I have the same group of friends,” Parrish said.
As for tonight’s show at 10 p.m., it features Cara’s “all-time favorite” thing she did last summer — riding rodeo bulls.
“It was one of the most fun things of my entire life. I tied for the highest time in the women’s division,” she said.
Other cast members are Shain, Shae, Tyler (youngest), Katie, Joey, Ashley, Anna and Salwa (oldest).
Tyler is the golden boy, according to Parrish.
“He played every sport in high school, claims he can hang with Shane and Joey but he’s the baby of the group. We like to give him a hard time,” she said. “Joey is the rough and rugged one. He’s Scooby Doo, goofy, funny with one-liners. Shane is the sweetest guy, an absolute teddy bear. He’s so loving and affectionate ... an absolute charmer.”
She described Anna and Katy as the club type and Ashley and Shae as those more likely to be at a bonfire. But they all move out of their comfort zone to have fun together.
“I love all my friends. I’m fortunate and so beyond blessed. We are all straight-forward and blunt. The first time one of us steps out of the circle, they bring us back.”
