BRIDGEPORT — Travelers left behind chilly weather in favor of the Sunshine State Thursday as Allegiant Air’s first flight took off from North Central West Virginia Regional Airport en route to Orlando-Sanford.
With the temperature in the upper 40s, passengers boarded an MD80 jet around 2:30 p.m. One hour and 45 minutes later, they landed in Florida, where temperatures were in the mid-70s.
Emily and Ken Ryan of Morgantown were taking their children, Patrick, 7, and Kelly, 5, to Walt Disney World.
“We’re actually meeting some other family members down there for a trip to Disney,” Emily said.
The Ryans wouldn’t have been able to make the trip if not for Allegiant’s new nonstop service to Orlando-Sanford, Emily said.
“My family was already going, but my husband and I had to work this morning. But, we were able to make the 2:30 p.m. flight. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been able to go,” Emily said.
